Overview
The wife of an American doctor suddenly vanishes in Paris and, to find her, he navigates a puzzling web of language, locale, laissez-faire cops, triplicate-form filling bureaucrats and a defiant, mysterious waif who knows more than she tells.
Good acting and cinematography, entertaining darkish noir story. Just a solid thriller at first sight, but thanks to Polanski’s attention to details, it’s a strong film after all. It was made around the time Polanski married Emanuele Seigner, who stars in this and many other movies of his since.
