Overview
It is 1967, and Larry Gopnik, a physics professor at a quiet Midwestern university, has just been informed by his wife Judith that she is leaving him. She has fallen in love with one of his more pompous acquaintances Sy Ableman.
It doesn’t get any better than this. The most personal and the best movie from my favorite directors and could the best movie I have ever seen. It’s going to be an above average weird comedy for the most though. The reason I love it might have to do with my understanding of what a movie should be. I want a movie to be entertaining but serious and original but not pretentious. That’s quite a lot to ask, but this one has it all. It’s an intelligent take on one man’s life, and life in general. There’s a lot of symbolism and interesting themes that include the faith, the destiny, the luck. And a lot of hilarious scenes that made this movie go smooth as butter. Every actor is a perfect fit, the music and cinematography are top class, like expected from Coens, and they have outdone themselves with a simple but extremely effective open ending. This movie is a mature version of Barton Fink.
