A very successful mix of Lanthimos’ earlier works and Hollywood’s movies. That’s why it got mass appeal and recognition. And it isn’t necessarily bad for the quality of this film. It shows the director is capable of showing something different. While being lighter than “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” and “The Lobster”, this movie might have the most engaging script between these three. And all of the Lanthimos’ trademarks are still there. It’s an absurd comedy/drama with a perfect cinematography, camera work and masterful music selection.
