2002
Crime, Drama

In New York City in the days following the events of 9/11, Monty Brogan is a convicted drug dealer about to start a seven-year prison sentence, and his final hours of freedom are devoted to hanging out with his closest buddies and trying to prepare his girlfriend for his extended absence.

All Spike Lee’s movies I’ve seen are energetically going by the rhythm of the street and with a meaning. This one is no exception, but “Do the Right Thing” and…

2002
Crime, Drama, Thriller

Trapped in their New York brownstone’s panic room, a hidden chamber built as a sanctuary in the event of break-ins, newly divorced Meg Altman and her young daughter Sarah play a deadly game of cat-and-mouse with three intruders – Burnham, Raoul and Junior – during a brutal home invasion. But the room itself is the focal point because what the intruders really want is inside it.

The action takes place in a house, but the intensity tops many bigger budget thrillers. That’s what happens when a simple-looking script is given to professional hands.

2001
Action, Crime, Drama, Thriller

On his first day on the job as a narcotics officer, a rookie cop works with a rogue detective who isn’t what he appears.

Could be described as one of the better cop movies. The strongest point is the heavyweight acting combo, but the director also has his style, which adds up to the…

1994
Thriller, Crime

A burger-loving hit man, his philosophical partner, a drug-addled gangster’s moll and a washed-up boxer converge in this sprawling, comedic crime caper. Their adventures unfurl in three stories that ingeniously trip back and forth in time.

Not sure if it’s worth this amount of attention, but yah, it’s good and has one of the strongest scripts compared to his other movies.

1996
Horror, Action, Thriller, Crime

Seth Gecko and his younger brother Richard are on the run after a bloody bank robbery in Texas. They escape across the border into Mexico and will be home-free the next morning, when they pay off the local kingpin. They just have to survive ‘from dusk till dawn’ at the rendezvous point, which turns out to be a Hell of a strip joint.

A classy old school movie from Tarantino. Goes a bit out of control but doesn’t stop the entertainment. You could as well watch it only for Hayek’s dance, heh.

2013
Crime, Thriller

When the quiet life of a beach bum is upended by dreadful news, he sets off for his childhood home to carry out an act of vengeance. However, he proves an inept assassin and finds himself in a brutal fight to protect his estranged family.

Not too dramatic as opposed to many art-house movies of this kind, and realistic. Everything is in its place, there are some interesting shots, but the script is somewhat lacking.…

2013
Crime, Drama, Comedy

A New York stockbroker refuses to cooperate in a large securities fraud case involving corruption on Wall Street, corporate banking world and mob infiltration. Based on Jordan Belfort’s autobiography.

Despite all the efforts from the actors, it’s not amongst the best of Scorsese, but it’s still worth the watch for its careful execution and wittiness.

2013
Thriller, Crime, Drama

A woman turns to prescription medication as a way of handling her anxiety concerning her husband’s upcoming release from prison.

Stylish cinema that reminds of older times when action movies weren’t so boring. Like expected from Soderbergh, the actors are good, the tension is there, and the movie doesn’t reveal…

2008
Crime, Drama, Mystery

Christine Collins is overjoyed when her kidnapped son is brought back home. But when Christine suspects that the boy returned to her isn’t her child, the police captain has her committed to an asylum.

Good actors, careful execution, all the things you could expect from Eastwood are here, except the story which is a bit lacking to my taste. I better like other Eastwood’s…

2017
Action, Crime

After being coerced into working for a crime boss, a young getaway driver finds himself taking part in a heist doomed to fail.

Should have liked this if I haven’t seen Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. This movie is just the cheaper mainstream version of the later.
