The film follows a petty rock band called the Winners, consisting of vocalist Joey Winner, bassist Jennifer, guitarist Tyler, drummer Sam, and French-Canadian roadie Hugo, along with their sleazy manager Jeff, as they tour across Canada and the USA after Jennifer is turned into a vampire by Queeny. Meanwhile, a vampire hunter who is afraid of the dark named Eddie Van Helsing quickly chases them down.

I was searching for something to watch when I stumbled upon this random movie. A vampire comedy with an old-school rock’n’roll ended up as one of my best obscure picks.…

Comedy, Horror

After being captured and tortured by the psychopath Otis, teen cheerleader Riley Lawson escapes and informs her parents, who quickly sidestep sluggish FBI agents and take matters into their own hands. But the Lawsons’ revenge plan hits a snag when Otis’s unusual brother enters the picture.

We’re getting to the weirdos’ corner now. It’s gonna be funny, if the poster is.

Action, Comedy, Romance, Music, Fantasy

As bass guitarist for a garage-rock band, Scott Pilgrim has never had trouble getting a girlfriend; usually, the problem is getting rid of them. But when Ramona Flowers skates into his heart, he finds she has the most troublesome baggage of all: an army of ex-boyfriends who will stop at nothing to eliminate him from her list of suitors.

One of the Edgar Wright’s best. A completely chill movie with its own refreshing style. Great camera work and acting with lots of fun and good music. Don’t watch Baby…

Drama, Thriller

A convert to Islam sends the U.S. government a tape showing him in three nondescript storage rooms, each of which may contain a nuclear bomb set to detonate in less than a week. Helen Brody, an FBI agent in L.A., is tasked with finding the bombs while a CIA “consultant”, known as H, interrogates the suspect who has allowed himself to be caught. The suspect, whose wife and children have left him and disappeared, seems […]

Sharp, intense and terrifying psychological thriller. The political theme could be felt, but there are a lot of food for thought. The performances are extremely realistic and it’s a very…

Comedy, Crime, Drama

A group of young Muslim men living in Sheffield decide to wage jihad, and they hatch an inept plan to become suicide bombers. Omar and Waj have a brief, disastrous run at a Pakistan training camp, while Faisal works on an unlikely scheme to train birds to carry bombs.

A phenomenally good movie investigating the roots of terror acts. These movies always have a risk to look documentary or too dramatic, but this one nails it. It shows things…

2009
Drama, Action, Comedy, Crime

A crooked cop, a mob boss and the young girl they abuse are the denizens of a city’s criminal underworld. It’s a world that ordinary Arthur Poppington doesn’t understand and doesn’t belong in, but is committed to fighting when he changes into a vigilante super-hero of his own making, Defendor. With no power other than courage Defendor takes to the streets to protect the city’s innocents.

An intelligent take on superhero black comedy. It’s hard to imagine this movie without Harrelson, but I also like the director’s choice not to over-dramatize. Better than Kick-Ass, I’d say,…

World War II soldier-turned-U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels investigates the disappearance of a patient from a hospital for the criminally insane, but his efforts are compromised by his troubling visions and also by a mysterious doctor.

A professionally done spooky movie from Scorsese. If you watch twisted psychological movies, it shouldn’t surprise you with its script, but the execution and acting are so well that I…

Comedy, Thriller, Mystery

A dissolute scriptwriter and a dejected actor become unwittingly drawn into a labyrinthine mess when several people experience bizarre accidental deaths in their flat. Though the men didn’t deliberately cause any of the incidents, they fear that they will be unfairly pegged as murderers if they relay information to the cops, and promptly set about disposing of the corpses in gruesome ways.

Not sure if I love the movie or the title more, but both are just sublime. A very recommended watch for the British comedy fans.

18th century justice catches up with a pair of grave robbers. With only a few hours to go before his date with the guillotine, Arthur Blake (Monaghan) tells his life story to Father Francis Duffy (Ron Perlman). Before long, Arthur spills the beans on how he got started in the grim corpse peddling business with seasoned ghoul Willie Grimes.

A hilarious comedy that doesn’t follow any of the Hollywood’s rules. The humor is dark without going into drama as opposed to many movies of this genre.

Comedy, Drama

It is 1967, and Larry Gopnik, a physics professor at a quiet Midwestern university, has just been informed by his wife Judith that she is leaving him. She has fallen in love with one of his more pompous acquaintances Sy Ableman.

It doesn’t get any better than this. The most personal and the best movie from my favorite directors and could the best movie I have ever seen. It’s going to…
